Brittany and Mark got married in Mark’s parents’ backyard in Salmon Arm on the September long weekend. The girls got ready at an adorable cabin, where they kept their spirits up despite the threat of rain. Of course, it started pouring on our drive to the wedding, but managed to ease up mostly for the rest of the day.
The backyard was definitely not what I expected and could make a very popular wedding venue on the island. The ceremony was held on a deck over a pond with guests circling around on a bridge and path. For the reception, Mark’s parents built a platform in a yard up stairs from the ceremony site, where they set up tables and a tent. There were even rose bushes planted in the shape of hearts in front of the tented area.
Overall, the wedding was very relaxed and fun, like the couple and their guests. After the portraits were done, the wedding party had a drink at a bar and I caught some fun moments. I love it when the day is more about spending time with your loved ones than posing for a ton of photos. There were some sweet, emotional toasts and there were some hilarious toasts, including a poem by the bridesmaids and an appearance by Mark’s childhood teddy bear. I feel like the first dance is usually a bit awkward with everyone watching the couple, but this one was adorable anyway, especially when it was interrupted by a groomsman dropping his beer, making everyone laugh.
I was really sick for this wedding with major sinus pain, but I was thrilled I could be there and capture so many great moments for an awesome couple.
