It's the every day moments and rituals that make our lives so meaningful. Life is about sharing these moments with people you love, and so is documentary family photography.
I'm not a fan of posed family portraits. That's the honest truth of it. I'll take a group photo for posterity just for the sake of it, but I much prefer those unposed moments. Those photos that capture relationships and personalities. I find that people love those photos so much more, especially over time as the memories begin to fade.
Why documentary style photography?
documentary sessions capture who you, and your family, really are at that moment in time, more than a posed portrait ever could
they allow you to relax and just be yourselves
I capture moments, expressions, glances, quirks that you might never notice in real life
no need to get all dressed up and try to make the kids behave, and you won't have to put on that fake smile yourself
How do these sessions work?
Documentary family sessions are meant to portray your life as it really is. I will accompany you during the activities of your choice and document you without direction. I highly recommend doing these sessions in your home, especially with small children, since it's such a big part of your lives.
Documentary family sessions range from one hour to a full day-in-the-life and start at $375, including 15 digital files of your choice from a larger gallery. Sessions can be booked online here. Family documentary can include immediate and extended family sessions, maternity sessions, and Fresh 48 newborn photography sessions.
Ready to start documenting your life? HERE’S WHAT’S NEXT.
You can book your session online here, which includes my contract and a link to pay via PayPal. If you'd like to pay via cheque or interac e-mail money transfer, just contact me after booking to arrange it.
Once you've booked, we'll brainstorm ideas for the session and figure out what activities would best represent your family.
I will send out a reminder of the session date, time, and location in the week prior to the shoot. Then, I’ll see you there!
“If you are thinking of doing a documentary style photo shoot, I highly recommend it. Lara is great and I have to admit, many of these photos were a surprise to me because we kind of forgot she was there. She was able to capture what it means to be in the Small family and these photos are a true representation of us and our fun times together.”
