Finally getting around to blogging this wedding from the end of July. This wedding was a ton of fun and pretty non-traditional. It was held at an oceanfront family home in Mill Bay with some gorgeous rustic decor elements, like wildflowers in mason jars (with the metal rims still attached).
The reception involved the usual speeches, the shoe game (with silly photos on sticks instead of shoes), first dance and parent dances, and cake cutting (with a sword, per family tradition). Aside from the planned events, the reception was sort of free-form, with lots of lawn games happening and a bit of dancing, including some costumes. A bunch of the guests created their own game that involved rolling hula hoops and trying to throw a frisbee through them, which I believe was called Hoop Sack (or however they spell it). If guests wanted the couple to kiss, they had to hula hoop, which some people found rather challenging.
One of my favourite parts of the evening was the best man’s speech, which consisted of an elaborate pantomime that he’d written, including costumes (the bride and groom dressed up as each other and another groomsman was a villan with a big nose), a sing-along, and this little bit of dialog (may be paraphrased): Sean, “I love you more than anything.” Jen, “Even more than fishing??”. Such a fun night!
