Remember Sophia and Deryck’s documentary engagement session, which told the story of her visiting him on weekends? A couple of weeks ago, I was lucky enough to get to photograph their intimate wedding on Pender Island. Getting to know these two over the last few months has been a wonderful experience for me. You don’t have to watch them for long to understand what love should look like.
It felt like the first day of summer at Poet’s Cove that day, with the bright sun shining from the moment we arrived, even though it had been pouring rain the day before – clearly an auspicious sign for this marriage.
The family got crafty with Sophia’s mother making her unique green wedding dress and gorgeous shawl. Handmade details were numerous, including several other handmade shawls. Sophia demonstrated that she has sneakers for every occasion with green All Stars for the wedding and orange ones for the reception to go with her orange dress. Deryck looked sophisticated in his dress uniform, but that didn’t keep him from laughing big and snuggling Sophia all day.
