On Saturday, August 22nd, I photographed a wedding reception for Stephanie and Stephen, with the help of Phil. They hired a photographer to shoot the ceremony and formals and asked their friend (my coworker) to photograph the reception. I volunteered to photograph their church hall wedding reception so that my friend could relax and have fun, instead of struggling to get the right exposure in a dark hall.
The official photographer ended up sticking around longer than agreed, which was very nice of him, and we tried to stay out of his way until he left. I had a lot of fun shooting this spirited crowd. I loved the bridal party’s classic gangster style suits and black satin dresses. The bride and groom looked amazing as well and there were some really impressive dancers in the crowd.
This wedding is proof that you don’t need to spend a lot of money to have a fun wedding with great photos. The reception just happened in a church hall, but the disco ball, string lights, and coloured lighting made it a lot more special. The couple and their guests’ laughter and joy would have made the photos great, no matter what the setting.
I got some images that I really love, and I hope you’ll love them too.
Reception location: Church of the Advent, Colwood, BC
